Chair Founding Director of the Writing Program at Colby Collegecolby.edu/writingprogramStacey Sheriff is founding Director of the Writing Program at Colby College in Waterville, Maine where she oversees WAC faculty development, a Writing-Enriched Curriculum (WEC) initiative, first-year writing, and writing assessment. She speaks and consults on building WAC programs; developing writing in the disciplines; designing assignments and responding to writing across the curriculum; and professional writing for college/university staff.
Stacey is the Incoming Chair of the Association for Writing Across the Curriculum, a professional organization that brings together the intellectual, human, political, and economic capital of the WAC community to better support and grow WAC as a global intellectual and pedagogical movement. She has also served as a lead QEP Evaluator for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
At Colby, she supports efforts to enhance teaching with writing across the curriculum through individual and departmental consultations and workshops. She was the primary investigator for a multi-year grant, from the Davis Educational Foundation, to develop Colby’s Writing-Enriched Curriculum (WEC) initiative and multilingual writing resources and pedagogies.
Her teaching includes first-year writing, rhetorical theory, rhetoric and new media, and writing and civic engagement. Her research interests include WAC, writing program administration, rhetorical theory and histories, and multilingual writing. She has published in Rhetorica, Rhetoric Society Quarterly, and Technical Communication Quarterly. Recent publications include “Beyond “I Know it When I See it”: WEC and the Process of Unearthing Faculty Expertise” in Writing-Enriched Curricula ( forthcoming, Perspectives in Writing series ) and “Colby College Writing Program & Farnham Writers’ Center” in Writing Program Architecture: Thirty Cases for Reference and Research (Utah State UP, 2017).
