Registration Queue & Details
Completing this Google form reserves your spot in the queue for the WAC Summer Institute, which will take place June 11 – 14, 2023 in Clemson, SC at the Madren Conference Center and Inn. This event is in-person only.
Once you have completed the reservation form, you will receive an email within 24 hours detailing your status and, if applicable, next steps for payment. If registration is already capped, submitting this form will reserve your place on the waitlist. Once you have paid, you may cancel your registration for a full refund until April 1, 2023.
Registration is $800, and it will be capped at 35 participants. Registration includes admission to the entire event; a Sunday evening reception; and breakfast, coffee, and snacks on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday; and lunch on Monday and Tuesday.
Note: Since this is a budgeted event based on registration payments, we need at least 30 participants for the event to run. We will officially announce whether the event is moving forward or not on April 2, 2023.
Agenda & Facilitators
The Summer Institute’s primary goal is to assist new and prospective leaders of WAC/WID or similar initiatives in the US and internationally in planning and developing sustainable programs. The Summer Institute also supports experienced directors who face new challenges or wish to expand, update, or revitalize their programs.
The institute agenda will move through the whole systems approach to launching and developing WAC programs as developed by Michelle Cox, Jeffrey Galin, and Dan Melzer in their book Sustainable WAC. Participants will work in small groups, as a whole group, individually, and with facilitators to tailor this approach to their own institutional contexts and goals.
Facilitators include Cristyn Elder (University of New Mexico), Dan Melzer (University of California, Davis), Laurie Pinkert (University of Central Florida), Al Harahap (CUNY), and Alisa Russell (Wake Forest University).
Lodging & Transportation
We have secured a block rate with the James F. Madren Inn (the same location as the event). This block rate is between $145 and $165 dollars per evening. You can book with the block rate by calling and referencing the WACSI/IWAC event. You may select evenings anytime between Sunday June 11 and Sunday June 18 depending on your plans to stay for the IWAC Conference. They will begin releasing any unreserved rooms 60 days prior to the event, so book by April 11 to secure the rate.
We have also set aside extra rooms for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday evening in the Clemson Dormitories, which is $50 per evening, and you can also book for the entire week if you plan to stay for IWAC. You must book your dorm room through the Clemson IWAC website.
