SUMMARY:Virtual Workshop: Accessible Assessment
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exciting virtual workshop on Friday\, May 13th from 3:00-4:30pm ET\, presented by Dr. Molly E. Ubbesen\, Director of Writing at University of Minnesota Rochester. \nIf you are an AWAC member\, register for the event by clicking HERE. Interested guests can review our individual and institutional membership options before registering. Registration will close Wednesday\, May 11th at midnight (ET). \nEvent Recording: \n\nDr. Ubbesen will examine how our assessment practices\, specifically grading and evaluating student work\, through the lens of access can create inclusive access not only for students and instructors with disabilities\, but for everyone in the class. Accessibility is also a matter of anti-racist\, feminist\, and trauma-informed pedagogies that tend to students’ intersectional identities. She will provide the rationale for her credit-based evaluation scheme\, which is a form of ungrading that promotes meaningful learning over obtaining letter grades and will also analyze student reflections on this grading scheme. Participants will reflect on their own grading schemes and evaluation practices and learn ways to make them more accessible and equitable. \nSpeaker Bio \nMolly E. Ubbesen\, Ph.D. (she/her) is Assistant Professor and Director of Writing at University of Minnesota Rochester. She applies critical disability studies to writing studies to support more accessible and effective teaching and learning. Dr. Ubbesen has published work in Writing Program Administration\, Composition Forum\, and Disability Studies Quarterly. She is on the editorial team for a second edition of the foundational text Disability and the Teaching of Writing\, and she is also working on a research project about accessible assessment. A favorite part of her job is teaching the Disability Narratives course she designed. \nQuestions? Please contact AWAC Mentoring Committee Co-Chairs Lindsay Clark (lclark@shsu.edu) and Amy Cicchino (atc0057@auburn.edu).
