Jeffrey R. Galin

Jeffrey Galin is Professor of English at Florida Atlantic University. He is founding director of FAU’s University Center for Excellence in Writing and Writing Across the Curriculum program, Community Center for Excellence in Writing, and Writing Across the Curriculum. He previously served as the Assistant Director for the Western Pennsylvania National Writing Project.

Jeff earned his Ph.D. in Critical and Cultural Theory with specialization in composition in the Department of English at the University of Pittsburgh and an MA in literature at the University of Alabama. Over the past 34 years, he has taught a range of classes in rhetoric and composition on writing, writing theory and pedagogy, intellectual property, multimodal composition, and writing program administration.

He has co-edited two volumes, and his most recent co-authored book is Sustainable WAC: A Whole Systems Approach to Launching and Developing Writing Across the Curriculum Programs, which provides a theoretical framework for developing sustainable WAC programs, a set of principles, strategies, methodology, and tactics. He has published articles in College Composition and Communication, Computers and Composition, and Kairos, WAC Journal, Across the Disciplines, and in social work, chemical education, and honors council journals. He has also published chapters on issues of copyright and fair use, in several edited book collections, and he has given over 100 presentations and workshops at national or international conferences.

Since 2004 he has trained over six hundred faculty in WAC workshops. In addition, he manages a university-wide WAC assessment process, a Writing Enriched Curriculum initiative, and a Writing Intensive program for FAU.

He serves as the chair of the WAC Standing Group at CCCC, Outgoing Chair and one of the founding organizers of the Association for Writing Across the Curriculum, and recently co-led the WAC Summer Institute for AWAC. He has consulted for a range of institutions concerning WAC including community colleges, small private universities, and regional colleges, and research institutions.
