Chris Anson (www.ansonica.net) is Distinguished University Professor, Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Professor, and Director of the Campus Writing and Speaking Program at North Carolina State University, where he works with faculty across the curriculum to enhance teaching in the areas of written, oral, and digital communication. Chris has spoken, consulted, and led faculty workshops at over 700 institutions and conferences across the United States and in 33 other countries, including 96 keynote and plenary addresses. He is frequently sought for his faculty workshops and for his expertise in the development of writing-across-the-curriculum, and at NC State spearheaded the first departmentally-focused WAC program (now known as “WEC,” or writing-enriched curriculum). He has published 18 books and over 140 journal articles and book chapters about writing and is on the editorial or reader’s boards of many journals. Chris has received numerous awards, including, at NC State, the Distinguished Graduate Professor Award, the Outstanding Teacher Award, and induction into the Academy of Outstanding Teachers. At the University of Minnesota, he received the State of Minnesota Higher Education Teaching Excellence Award, the Morse-Alumni Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education, and the Governor’s Star Service Award for his service-learning work. He was an NCTE Promising Researcher Award Finalist and has received or participated as a co-principal investigator in over $2.1 million in grants. Chris was Chair of the Conference on College Composition and Communication (2011-14; Chair, 2013) and President of the Council of Writing Program Administrators (2002-2005), and has served on many CCCC and NCTE committees and task forces. He holds a Ph.D. and second M.A. from Indiana University and a first M.A. and B.A. from Syracuse University.

Although I have most experience in L1 instruction, I have worked with a number of programs overseas where English is not students’ first or primary language. I have also provided faculty-development workshops and consulting at many 2-year schools and a few high schools.
